| | Division 1 - Aberaeron 4 v 1 Maesglas
The talk before the game for the Blues was to tighten up defensively and to try and take the chances when presented with them.....unfortunately neither came to fruition, for all Maesglas' possession and this they did for the majority of the game they just could not finish off the chances they created. As for Aberaeron they must be wondering how they managed to score 4. All four goals were somewhat flattering as flaws appeared in the Blues rear guard when defending set plays. Two goals from corners one a penalty and the other a defensive cock up which ended the match as a contest, as for the Blues goal, a corner which came off an Aber player..says it all really. Blues were closest to opening the scoring when Dai Coles rasping drive was heading towards the  bottom corner but the Aber keeper tipped it around the post. Soon afterwards though the Blues conceded a soft penalty, making an excellent first team début was young centre midfielder 17 year old Jack Davies, the son of Blues legend Barrie Davies, Jack was adjudged to have been pulling an Aber player down in the box from a corner. A well taken pen saw some heads dropping on the Blues side, and 5 minutes later a corner was drifted into the box, Blues keeper Keen seemed to be impeded whilst leaping for the ball and the ball was bundled into the net. This was hurting the Blues and totally drained them of any confidence they had before hand. Two goals down after dominating the game up till that point and this didn't really change, yes Aberaeron had their moments with keeper Keen being called into action on one occasion and right Mark James cleared an Aber effort off the line, but in-between  all this the Blues were the better side playing good football but not breaking into the danger areas and finishing good chances. The third Aber goal again a good header came from a corner. Then Blues had a bit of luck for once ...from a Blues corner an Aber defender headed an OG, the Blues then gifted a goal back to the Black and Ambers, an obscure back pass from Wyn Morgan was not dealt with by the oncoming Keen who air shot his clearance and the Aber striker had the easiest of chances by stroking the ball into the empty net. Game over..no excuses...whilst Maesglas looked the better side they could not break the defence of Aberaeron, and when they did they failed to take those chances, if they had then the score line would not read what it does, but saying that if soft goals are conceded then it will always be an uphill task. Manager Paul Jones was disappointed to say the least “ we can make excuses for the way the goals were gifted, for me three of the goals were poor, the penalty was very harsh, the goal from the corner should have been a foul on Keen and the fourth goal was just a calamity, some players confidence drained as the goals went in especially the second goal, but I can’t knock the boys, we played some good stuff but we weren't rewarded, but we have to defend better I seem to echo this before every game, but next week against Bargod I want to see my players rolling up their sleeves and showing that we are not a bad side after all !!” |
